“Antorcha Guadalupana” is a peregrination that departs from the Basilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City and arrives on December 12th in New York City. This relay walk carrying the image of the virgin of Guadalupe (emblematic and emotive symbol of Mexican people) and a lighted torch (symbol of hope), travels through more than 75 towns on a route that coincides with the path of immigrant workers. More than seven thousand people participate, mostly young adults called “messengers of dignity of a town divided by a border.” This symbolic religious act generates a transnational net that articulates a sense of solidarity between those living on the land divided by the US-Mexico border.
